High Covid-19 vaccination coverage makes India a safe tourist destination, says government


NEW DELHI: India’s huge covid vaccination coverage makes it a safe tourist destination, Rakesh Kumar Verma, additional secretary at the Ministry of Tourism, told the World Travel Market 2022 in London.

Verma said India was showcasing diverse tourism offerings to global industry players such as tour operators, travel agents and media, among others, during the World Travel Market 2022. “India is focused on promotion of sustainable tourism, digitalization of the tourism sector, development of tourism MSMEs and skills at WTM.”

“The sector has great resilience and it has bounced back from various adversities and crises. In India, tourism is recovering well, with domestic tourism contributing significantly. The country has achieved unprecedented success in vaccinating our population. About. 2.19 billion doses have been administered, showing that India as a tourist destination is safer and more resilient to face the threat posed by the current pandemic.”

He said India is also preparing for the G20 Presidency, whose term begins on December 1, 2022. “Under his presidency, the country is expected to host more than 200 meetings in 55 cities across the country. The G-20 Presidency will provide India’s tourism sector with an unprecedented opportunity to showcase India’s tourism offerings and share India’s tourism success stories on the world stage. »

The Ministry of Tourism aims to grow the tourism sector in the aftermath of the Covid pandemic to new heights and accelerate the transition to achieve the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
