Montego Bay, Jamaica is the top summer “travel recovery city” of 2022, according to a new report from ForwardKeys.
Jamaica’s tourism hub is seeing a major improvement from what was already a strong period for the destination last summer, according to the report, which was shared by Jamaica’s Ministry of Tourism.
Montego Bay tourism performance is up 23% from summer 2021.
“At the city level, the summer travel recovery is being led by Caribbean destinations, namely Montego Bay, Jamaica,” the report said.
Montego Bay was joined by two top-ranked Caribbean destinations: Punta Cana, Dominican Republic and Cancun, Mexico.
Punta Cana is seeing a 19% increase, while Cancun is up 14% over the same period.
“Jamaica is bouncing back from the devastating impact on the sector of the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Jamaican Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett.
Jamaica is, he said, “now more than before, ready for a full recovery.”
Jamaica has seen record tourist arrivals and revenue over the past year, according to the government.
