Promoting Malaysia as a Safe Travel Destination at ATF 2022

The ASEAN market is the main contributor in terms of tourist arrivals in Malaysia. Cambodian arrivals to Malaysia recorded a positive growth of 7.8%, from 90,113 in 2018 to 97,097 in 2019.

PUTRAJAYA, MALAYSIA – The Malaysian delegation to the ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF) this year comes with a mission to promote Malaysia as a safe travel destination following ASEAN’s unanimous support and commitment to revitalizing tourism and reopening its doors to international tourists.

Hosted in the coastal city of Sihanoukville in Cambodia, the 40th edition of the ATF 2022 from January 16 to 22, 2022 is held under the theme of “ASEAN – A Community of Peace and a Shared Future ». Joining the Malaysian delegation are representatives of Sabah Tourist Board, Malaysia Convention and Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB), Malaysian Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC) and Islamic Tourism Center (ITC).

In addition to the National Tourism Organizations (NTOs) media briefing, the ATF 2022 portfolio includes The Travel Exchange (TRAVEX), the forum’s travel trade show, which serves as a platform for ASEAN tourism product and service providers and qualified buyers from all over the world to meet through pre-arranged appointments. Several meetings are held along this forum, including the ASEAN NTBs Meeting and the 25th ASEAN Tourism Ministers Meeting.

Official inauguration by the Cambodian Prime Minister Hun-sen, ATF 2022 welcomes 350 participants from more than 27 countries and regions. More than 200 travel buyers and sellers, as well as 50 local and international media, participated in this forum.

Datuk Musa Yusof said: “In conjunction with ATF 2022, we also held a special networking lunch with travel agents and met with industry players in Phnom Penh to update our partners on Malaysia’s latest tourism products and developments..”
